Volunteering is a Family Tradition

Volunteering as a Family

Volunteering is a family tradition for the Appel family. Bill Appel is one of our longest running volunteer drivers. He regularly delivers alongside his daughter Kassie, and on special occasions - his granddaughter Sarah. Now, they get ready for the 4th generation in this picture; as Sarah is expecting! 4 generations of volunteers! Congratulations from everyone at Meals on Wheels of Syracuse and thank you all for your service delivering meals to our homebound neighbors.

Get your family involved in this great tradition by volunteering with Meals on Wheels of Syracuse. www.meals.org. #VOLUNTEERING #LETSDOLUNCH

Congress Passes Bipartisan Bill Ahead of Deadline

Meals on Wheels of Syracuse

Following the Senate's lead from last week, yesterday the House of Representatives passed H.R. 6157, or the Fiscal Year (FY) 2019 Defense and Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education (Labor-HHS-Ed) Appropriations Act. This bipartisan bill includes a $10 million increase for the Older Americans Act (OAA) Nutrition Program, with home-delivered meal services each receiving $5 million in additional funding over FY 2018 level.

We at Meals on Wheels of Syracuse applaud Congress for passing this bipartisan bill and for considering the critical needs of our nation's seniors!

With final passage in both chambers of Congress, the joint Defense and Labor-HHS-Ed spending package now heads to the President's desk for his signature. We hope that this bill will be signed into law before September 30 due to its overwhelming bipartisan support. We'll keep you up-to-date as we learn more!
