How You Can Help As a Volunteer

Each day, volunteers help prepare, package, and distribute hundreds of nutritious meals to homebound seniors. The Meals on Wheels program helps to preserve dignity and independence of meal recipients by delaying nursing home placements, as well as reducing the frequency of hospitalizations.

Food Service Volunteers:

8:30 AM – 11:00 AM Monday – Friday

Location: 300 Burt Street, Syracuse, New York

Qualifications: No food service experience is needed; our professional staff will guide you. Volunteers should enjoy working in teams and have a desire to help senior citizens in the Syracuse community.

Delivery Volunteer*:

11:00 AM - 1:00 PM Monday – Friday

Location: 300 Burt Street, Syracuse, New York

Qualifications: You’ll need a friendly disposition, ability to work independently, a U.S. state issued driver’s license, automobile, and automobile insurance.

Office Volunteer

Open Monday – Friday

Location: 300 Burt Street, Syracuse, New York

Qualifications: You’ll need a friendly disposition and an ability to work independently.  Ability to answer phones, file correctly, use various email and standard business software are a plus.

Upcoming Orientations:

Orientations are mandatory for new delivery volunteers. All orientations are held at 300 Burt Street, Syracuse. Times are subject to change, please RSVP to volunteer@meals.org and to receive updated information.

Volunteering With a Group:

Meals on Wheels of Syracuse invites groups (up to 10 individuals) and organizations to volunteer with us throughout the year. Whether a corporate, church, or civic group, Meals on Wheels of Syracuse has a place for you.  Please use the link above to complete a group volunteer application. Individual volunteers will need to also complete the individual volunteer application, and indicate which group they are volunteering with.

Routes 1 to 6 and 36-41: 10:30 to 10:40 a.m.

Routes 7 to 12: 10:40 to 10:50 a.m.

Routes 13-22: 10:50 to 11 a.m.
 

Wednesday

Routes 1 to 5 and 36-41: 10:30 to 10:40 a.m.

Routes 6 to 12: 10:40 to 10:50 a.m.

Friday
