Congress Passes Bipartisan Bill Ahead of Deadline

Meals on Wheels of Syracuse

Following the Senate's lead from last week, yesterday the House of Representatives passed H.R. 6157, or the Fiscal Year (FY) 2019 Defense and Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education (Labor-HHS-Ed) Appropriations Act. This bipartisan bill includes a $10 million increase for the Older Americans Act (OAA) Nutrition Program, with home-delivered meal services each receiving $5 million in additional funding over FY 2018 level.

We at Meals on Wheels of Syracuse applaud Congress for passing this bipartisan bill and for considering the critical needs of our nation's seniors!

With final passage in both chambers of Congress, the joint Defense and Labor-HHS-Ed spending package now heads to the President's desk for his signature. We hope that this bill will be signed into law before September 30 due to its overwhelming bipartisan support. We'll keep you up-to-date as we learn more!
