SMALL BUSINESS SATURDAY

In 2010, American Express founded Small Business Saturday to help businesses with their most pressing need — getting more customers. The day encourages people to shop at small businesses on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. The single day has grown into a powerful movement, and more people are taking part than ever before. This year, the big day is Nov 29.

SyracuseFirst is a not for profit network of locally owned, independent businesses and organizations dedicated to building a sustainable community by encouraging citizens to "Think Local First". Founded in 2009, our mission is to create a thriving local economy by maximizing the potential of local businesses, and transferring market share from non-locally owned businesses to local independently owned businesses. We do this by educating citizens about the economic and social advantages that independent and local businesses bring to a community.

These one-of-a-kind businesses are an essential part of the distinctive character of Central New York. By thinking local, we can make choices that have dramatic impact on our local community, economy, and environment. Together, we can create a community that supports a thriving local economy and a healthy way of life.

And don't forget about Giving Tuesday! On Tuesday, December 2, 2014, charities, families, businesses, community centers, and students around the world will come together for one common purpose: to celebrate generosity and to give.
