Meals on Wheels of Syracuse is hosting a contest for winning recipes that fit into our nutritional guidelines for meals provided to our homebound clients. We are searching for recipes that are in one of the following 5 categories: Hot Entrée, Hot Vegetable, Hot Starch, Cold Salad, and Cold Entrée or Sandwich.
Food Service Director, Jennifer Stone advises that “recipes should include common ingredients that are typically stocked in a kitchen. Foods that are fried or naturally have high sodium content should be avoided as well as foods with spicy hot ingredients as these are not well tolerated among our meal recipients. Our kitchen has many spices and seasonings that can be used for bringing out flavor in food items.”
The contest will be launched today and will continue through the months of April and May. Your favorite recipes can be sent by mail to Meals on Wheels of Syracuse, NY at 300 Burt Street, Syracuse, NY 13202 to the attention of the Community Relations Office or by email to email@example.com . Please be sure to include your name and daytime contact phone number as well as an email address if you are able.
Recipes will be reviewed and the winning recipes will find themselves on the summer menu for Meals on Wheels of Syracuse, along with proper recognition of the recipe as well as the person who submitted the recipe.
“Currently, we post a recipe of the month on our website at www.meals.org, and on our Face Book page, Meals on Wheels of Syracuse. Now we would like to change it up a bit and instead of sharing recipes that we find, we would like others to share their favorite recipes with us,” says Nancy Ranieri, Community Relations Director. “It brings the community into our kitchen, and into our client's lives and that is what it is all about, as senior hunger is a community-wide issue.”
