MOWS Goes to SAS to Talk About Volunteerism

March for Meals Campaign Includes Talking to Young Children about the Spirit of Volunteerism!

The first grade classes from Syracuse Academy of Science Charter School (SAS) invited MOWS Executive Director Mason Kauffman & Community Relations Director, Nancy Ranieri to their classroom on Tuesday, March 26th to talk to them about Meals on Wheels of Syracuse and the topic of volunteerism and doing "good deeds."

The 48 students listened intently and asked many excellent questions about how the meals are made, what foods are in the meals, and how much it costs as well as many other very good questions.  Their hands were in the air, waiting for their turn to ask their questions and their enthusiasm was greatly appreciated.

The children presented over 170 hand-made cards for our clients, depicting spring themes.  These cards will be packed as "tray favors" in the meals later this week.  Our meal recipients will surely enjoy this nice surprise.

The children also made large THANK YOU cards for the staff & volunteers who work at MOWS to thank them for all that they do for our homebound neighbors in the community. Please see their images below.

Thank you to the first graders at Syracuse Academy of Science for their interest in community service and MOWS... it was great to talk with you! Keep up the good work!
